Ewen Cameron
"OVER THE ANDES BY HORSE AND MULE". In February 2014, three former Light Dragoons, Lieutenant General Simon Mayall, Colonel Tim Checketts and Colonel Ewen Cameron, rode from Argentina to Chile and back, following the route of General San Martin, the liberator of Chile from Spain in 1816-18. Crossing two Andes passes, with their horses in belly-deep snow at 14,000 ft., they were fortunate to witness an instance of real endeavour. Ewen Cameron explains how crazy gauchos, a mule with a mind of its own, unseasonably bad weather and a constant struggle to avoid the "F" word, made for a memorable journey.
